Unfortunately accidents happen like fires or floods which can really damage your home. First, take a video of the damage as soon as you can after the damage has occurred, photographs are also very helpful. This will allow you to capture what has happened to your home soon after the damage has occurred.

Secondly, if you do have any photographs or video taken of your home before the fire or damage has occurred, it is very helpful to have those secured so you can compare before and after pictures. The insurance company will require a lot from you shortly after the damage has occurred and, as mentioned earlier, can be a very stressful given what you’ve just suffered. I would encourage you to contact a lawyer to help you through the process with the insurance company early on and to make sure that you are getting all the benefits for which you paid insurance.
