Your doctor will examine you and you will determine whether your doctor does or does not agree with you and your ability to work. If you and your doctor in agreement that you’re unable to work, it is very important that you apply for your disability benefits as soon as possible.
Typically, whether you have disability insurance available to you through your work or you’ve purchased an individual policy, you’ll be required to fill out an application form and submit it to the insurance company. At the same time, you’re treating doctor will also have to fill out a form on your behalf and submit it to the insurance company. Once received, the insurance company will determine whether it will or will not approve you for those disability benefits. In the event that you are not approved and in fact denied, you should contact a lawyer right away to ensure that your rights are protected and you take the right steps to receive the disability benefits to which you are entitled. It can obviously be very difficult for someone if you’re unable to work and you’re not receiving income from your disability insurer.
